Drones is a freely downloadable, royalty-free collection of drone sound effects and atmospheric soundscapes crafted by Red Fog.
The free download link is located at the end of this article.
The Library
Designed to launch your sound system into outer space and take you on a mysterious journey toward unexplored galaxies, Drones are a must-have sound library for any soundscapes aficionado.
Sound designer Red Fog describes Drones as a sound library that’s not necessarily gritty or industrial but rather oriented towards atmospheric and ambient textures.
Drones work beautifully in tandem with some of our previous releases, such as Magnetic Fields by Matt Bowdler and InterSpace by Johan Ekelove.
What Are Drone Sounds
In sound design, a “drone” sound effect typically refers to a continuous, low-pitched, humming noise that lasts for a long time.
Drones are often used in music and video projects to create ambient backgrounds and evoke certain moods. For example, science fiction movies often use a drone during long landscape shots to make you feel the vastness of space.
That said, drones are super versatile. They can invoke happy or sad emotions and make us feel tranquil or tense. It all depends on the drone’s timbre and character.
You can alter a drone’s pitch, timbre, and modulation to suit the scene’s requirements.
For instance, a deep, low-pitched drone might be used to create a sense of tension or dread in a horror movie, while a more melodic, lighter drone could evoke tranquility or peace in a nature documentary.
The Artist
Red Fog is a drone/ambient sound artist whose music focuses mostly on drones, atmospheric soundscapes, and dark ambiance.
There are no beats AND no rhythm—just pure drones and textures. You can follow Red Fog’s work on his SoundCloud profile, as well as his Bandcamp page.

Ah ok i´ll never had one of theese i will try. Thank you for the answer and of course the samples.
Beautiful soundscapes and drones! Thanks a lot!
I’ve downloaded this pack with Free Download Manager but what do I do with the “application_octet-stream”-file when download is ready? How to open it?
Yep. Downloaded just fine but can not extract the file. Archive Browser says the files are in there, but I get an error message saying “cannot create directory”
Our file host is causing the issue, sorry about that. The fixed download will be available in 30 minutes.
UPDATE: The download is now fixed. A mirror is currently being uploaded and will be added to the page in 30 minutes.
Just tells me ‘something went wrong’, can’t we just have a zip file for ease of use?
Please try the new download link (Mirror 1). It should work without any issues and it’s a ZIP archive.
We apologize to everyone for the recent download issues. We’re having lots of traffic and the download servers have trouble keeping up.
Got it, thank you! Sounds great!
I click and get sent here: https://d.pr/o0tj+
But it says “Something is wrong” and I can’t download. Anyone know what’s up?
We have fixed the link, please try again.
Excellent atmospheres! I can’t help but wonder…in “Bromotrifluoromethane Leak”… Do my ears detect Tritik Moodal in there somewhere? I love that plugin to tears. Anyway, from one atmosphile to another, I’m in love with these sounds. Really, REALLY cool stuff :D
Is there a difference between the mirror 1 and mirror 2?
Nope, it’s just a backup download link.
Any new mirrors for this?
Please retry the download. It should work fine now.
