Project Pegasus sound library by Sound Author.

Project Pegasus is a free collection of dreamy analog arpeggios, lush strings, huge pads and ambient soundscapes crafted by Bryan Lake aka Sound Author. The library offers a diverse palette of warm and spacious sounds which are ready for use in Kontakt 5 or any WAV compatible sampler.

The sounds were built from scratch using various virtual synthesizers and real world instruments and processed with both internal and external studio gear. Bryan has used various sound mangling and re-sampling techniques to create a variety of rich ambient pads and some fantastic arpeggio sequences.

The library contains over 100 individual instrument patches, covering a broad range of cinematic and ambient sounds ranging from huge dreamy soundscapes to classic analog pads and earth shaking bass samples.

Project Pegasus is a cinematic sound library which is perfectly suitable for use in cinematic scoring and ambient soundtracks, however most the included pads and soundscapes can be used in a variety of music genres such as electronica, experimental rock, dubstep, etc. Feel free to experiment with these samples and layer them together to create even bigger and more complex soundscapes and pads.

About The Author

Bryan Lake aka Sound Author is a composer and sound designer based in Florida. He has published a number of free sound libraries and NI Reaktor ensembles on his website, including an outstanding free sound bank for the legendary Synth 1 virtual instrument. An interview with Bryan will be published on our website later today.

UPDATE: Sound Author has recently released his first commercial sound bank for U-He DIVA. It is called Undertow and is currently available for purchase on a pay what you want basis.

Technical Details

Project Pegasus contains 122 audio samples in 24-bit WAV format. The included samples are sorted into three different folders. The pack contains 19 arpeggios, 50 atmospheres and 53 instruments. The samples are perfectly looped and you can easily load them in any WAV compatible sampler instrument. Each sound from the pack comes with a corresponding instrument patch for Kontakt 5.

The sounds in the instruments folder include pads, keys, bass samples and leads. They are suitable for polyphonic playing. The sounds in the atmospheres folder are mostly suitable for monophonic playing. The arpeggios will sync to your host application’s tempo automatically. The root note for the arpeggios is C2 and the sound quality will deteriorate significantly as you move further away from the root pitch.

The included Kontakt 5 patches are based on a custom script which was kindly provided by Tudor Nastase aka Evoke. The pack contains 122 individual Kontakt 5 patches in total. The disk space required in order to use the library is 294 MB.

Thanks for the great uploads! Though…I tried adding the .nki into the kontakt library and it isn’t working. The file is there…but it doesn’t want to cooperate with Kontakt. The only way so far to get it to work was through the clicking of many subfolders by going from “files…drive…etc.” Also, the .nki’s says “demo?”

Quick question on Pegasus. Have tested the sounds in it which are great. but mine is missing the wallpaper file when you bring up each sound. Was there supposed to be a wallpaper file with the download?

Not a big deal and I can create my own if need be, but just curious.

Other than that , all works great.

“provided that the samples are not used as part of a sample library”

This means not to put the samples into another sample library online or something, right?

Hey thanks so much for the sounds – they’re great!
I’m trying to add the library to my Kontakt 5 but its telling me there’s no library – is that correct?
I can drop the .nki file into ok but would like to a library tab etc….any suggestions?

Hi Ken, thanks for the kind works! Yes, these are only provided as NKI patches – no library included (making a library requires an expensive license from Native Instruments). Simply drag and drop the individual NKI patches into Kontakt to load them, or use the arrows to browse through the patches.

You’re using the free version of Kontakt which will only allow 15 minutes of play time. To remove the limitation, you should upgrade to the full version of Kontakt.

Or just convert 24 to 16 bit .wav in Audacity and pop them in the DS404… =Free sampler for free sounds :-) If on slow+expensive data plan & 212MB is impossible, try the [related] 60kB Synth1 bank on KVR because it’s INSANELY good! Google “KVR banks and patches Synth1” because they’re a bit lost on the actual site.

Yeah, seriously grateful Bryan: you’ve saved me a fortune in mind altering / expanding / sedating drugs with these… I daren’t layer them or add reverb because I think I might totally slip this dimension!

I don’t have to complain because these are Freebies….but at least ‘Exodus’ and ‘Pegasus’ are not compatible with Kontakt 5, you need Kontakt 5.5 for it (which is big difference). It would be great to state this in the description.

    Thank you.
-I downloaded the RAR file into my Documents/Kontakt Factory Selection Library
-Downloaded 7-Zip free open source software.
-clicked on RAR file and chose 7-Zip program to open RAR and load it into same folder where I downloaded RAR file
-Poof! Like magic, RAR was unzipped and ready for use.
-I opened Kontakt in my Studio One. Loaded the first Atmosphere (drag and drop) into empty Kontakt and Poof! Like magic the Project Pegasus appeared with loaded patch.
-I played and recorded about a minute into my Studio 1 and it Works!
Hope this helps others out there.
Thanks to the author. I’ll be sending you some payment via PayPal. Great job.

first off these are so awesome! having lots of fun with the .wav files.
my only problem is that i use the kontakt 5 player, which is free…i am guessing without purchasing the full version of kontakt i can only use the NKI in DEMO mode ?

Thanks Chad! You are correct, the free “Player” version of Kontakt times out after twenty minutes or so, but the .WAV files are there in the folder structure and you can use them in any sampler you want.
