Magnetic Fields is an eclectic collection of 50 dark and atmospheric soundscapes crafted by Matt Bowdler, aka The Unfinished.
The free download link is located at the end of this article.
Free Soundscapes
The idea behind the Magnetic Fields sound library is one of dusty, mechanical, hyperreal atmospherics—glimpses into little worlds that may or may not exist.
These free soundscapes were constructed with various The Unfinished’s homegrown samples, which were then processed with various NI Reaktor modules.
Field recordings, vocals, and drum loops have all been given the Magnetic Fields treatment, providing a cool collection of curiosities ideal for ambient, sci-fi, and horror work.
Free Soundscapes for Kontakt
The library also includes NKI patches for Kontakt, enabling you to play these free soundscape samples with a MIDI keyboard.
The main NKI file is located in the root folder, and it contains all 50 free soundscapes, which are mapped across the keyboard.
A bonus set of tuned NKI patches is located in the BONUS PATCHES folder. These additional patches work very well for playing weird pads and lead sounds.
The Artist
The Unfinished is a composer, sound designer, and producer based in London. He has worked on various projects, including Hollywood movies, hit US TV shows, and AAA video games.
You can take a look at some of The Unfinished’s commercial sound design work in his online shop.
I’m a big fan of The Unfinished’s sounds and patches, and it’s a huge honor to have one of his sample libraries featured on 99Sounds. For a “behind the scenes” look at how The Unfinished makes his sounds, check out our Artist Spotlight interview with him.
Summary
Magnetic Fields contains 50 atmospheric soundscapes in 24-bit WAV format. All included sounds have been created by The Unfinished. The raw WAV files are included in the SAMPLES folder inside the download pack.
The download pack also contains a set of NKI instrument patches, which can be loaded inside NI Kontakt 5. The patches are based on a custom script that was kindly provided by Tudor Nastase, aka Evoke.
Finally, the library contains an SFZ instrument patch with all 50 samples mapped across the keyboard. The SFZ patch is located in the SAMPLES folder. You can use freeware instruments such as Zampler or sforzando to load the provided SFZ patch.

Awesome! Very nice of Matt to share these with us. I love his sounds :)
Same here, it’s a real honor for me to have his work featured on 99Sounds!
downloaded your interspace….very interesting…nothing there…empty, just like space
Hi Geoff, I’m not sure if I follow. You’ve downloaded InterSpace, but you’re getting an empty archive? You should be getting a ZIP archive named [99Sounds] Interspace.zip when you click the download button.
Thanks..its very good..!!
Cheers!
Top notch pack!
Cheers Ronnie and thanks for all the support so far!
Wow! Congrats for such collaboration! By the way Matt’s “The Unfinished Breaks” is another great pack.
download not working :/
Excellent !
thank you for all great sample pack.(Y)
thanks. This will be a great addition to my sample library
More proof, if we needed it, that “the best things in life are free”. These soundscapes are weird and wonderful, unusual and unsettling … my cuppa tea, right up my proverbial alley. Thanks, guys!
Tried to download 6 times. Get to 97.1mb then fail.
Tried both ffox addon and independent resumable downloaader.
Thank you very very much !
firstly i REALLY want to Just want to 99Sounds THANKS A MILLION x BILLION c=because this takes my Hip hop Trap/ Electro sound to the next level for real, i downloaded almost all of the ‘Artist Series’ packs and CANT WAIT to use them, just the previews were enough to convince me to get all of them, wow man- GREAT WORK.
I use many sounds like thse for game design. Sites like this one are invaluable. I’m actually fine with paying a small royalty, regardless, if the game makes money. Thank you.
Thanks for the kind words and another thanks to The Unfinished for posting this awesome pack on 99Sounds! :)
Beautifully composed and recorded, thanks and really inspirational.
Outstanding! Thank you for sharing the talent, guys!
Hi, I’m not sure I understand the licence that downloads as a PDF with this library. Does the line ” You may not modify, adapt, create derivative works from or translate any part of the sample library, either for commercial benefit or otherwise.” limit it’s use in projects? Or just when selling as part of another library.
Also, the next statement “You may use the content of these sample library in your own music productions, including library/production music, as long as the content is not used in isolation. You may not use the samples in a sample library.” only mentions music, can I assume that this also covers work with picture? e.g. film and game.
Sorry, I get a bit wearing of licensing and like to know for sure!
Cheers
Hi Simon, yes it can look a bit confusing so no worries for asking! :)
As you already said, it’s just to prevent re-selling and/or re-distributing of the sounds themselves (like making a new sample pack based on these exact samples or selling them in a VSTi plugin). You can safely use them in any other creative manner, such as a music track, a video project, a video game, anything that isn’t simply taking these sounds and selling them or distributing them elsewhere.
I hope it makes more sense now!
Awesome, yep that’s cleared it up nicely. Thanks!
Thanks man, super generous of you! 99sounds rocks.
Can I use it in commercial purposes?
These sounds are phenomenal ambient textures, all by the legendary sound designer! Thank you!!
Am I allowed to use these sounds in a commercial game?
Yes!
Thanks much!
Is there a Password
All in all, I had downloaded “Magnetic Fields” around 2018 or so, or earlier (it’s been a while) (;;;)
And I really liked listening to these sounds … But as I learned to use a D.A.W. at the same time and that I was not very strong in data processing, I had separated the files and then I had trouble making “Magnetic Fields” work with Kontakt!
Today I made a little progress, I understood that it was necessary to place the whole file in the bookstores …
Finally I will be able to really enjoy it instead of just fantasizing about what I could have done with these beautiful sound textures! I look forward! And see you soon, in music!
