    Project Pegasus

    99SoundsBy 99SoundsNovember 25, 2014Updated:February 26, 202679 Comments3 Mins Read
Project Pegasus sound library by Sound Author.

Project Pegasus is a free collection of dreamy analog arpeggios, lush strings, huge pads, and ambient soundscapes crafted by Bryan Lake, aka Sound Author.

The free download link is located at the end of this article.

    The Library

Project Pegasus offers a diverse palette of warm and spacious sounds that are ready for use in Kontakt 5 or any WAV-compatible sampler.

The sounds were built from scratch using various virtual synthesizers and real-world instruments and processed with both internal and external studio gear. Bryan has used various sound mangling and re-sampling techniques to create a variety of rich ambient pads and some fantastic arpeggio sequences.

The library contains over 100 individual instrument patches, covering a broad range of cinematic and ambient sounds, ranging from huge dreamy soundscapes to classic analog pads and earth-shaking bass samples.

Project Pegasus is a cinematic sound library that is perfectly suitable for use in cinematic scoring and ambient soundtracks.

Still, most of the included pads and soundscapes can be used across various music genres, such as electronica, experimental rock, and dubstep. Feel free to experiment with these samples and layer them together to create even bigger and more complex soundscapes and pads.

    The Artist

Bryan Lake, aka Sound Author, is a composer and sound designer based in Florida.

He published a number of free sound libraries and NI Reaktor ensembles on his website, including an outstanding free soundbank for the legendary Synth 1 virtual instrument.

    Technical Details

The sounds in the instruments folder include pads, keys, bass samples, and leads. They are suitable for polyphonic playing. The sounds in the atmospheres folder are mostly suitable for monophonic playing.

The arpeggios will automatically sync to your host application’s tempo. The root note for the arpeggios is C2, and the sound quality will deteriorate significantly as you move further away from the root pitch.

The included Kontakt 5 patches require the full version of Native Instruments Kontakt. The pack contains 122 individual Kontakt 5 patches. The disk space required to use the library is 294 MB.

    Content

Project Pegasus contains 122 audio samples in 24-bit WAV format. The included samples are sorted into three different folders. The pack contains 19 arpeggios, 50 atmospheres, and 53 instruments.

The samples are perfectly looped, and you can easily load them in any WAV-compatible sampler instrument. Each sound from the pack comes with a corresponding instrument patch for Kontakt 5.

I don’t have to complain because these are Freebies….but at least ‘Exodus’ and ‘Pegasus’ are not compatible with Kontakt 5, you need Kontakt 5.5 for it (which is big difference). It would be great to state this in the description.

        Can’t you just update Kontakt?

      Thank you.
-I downloaded the RAR file into my Documents/Kontakt Factory Selection Library
-Downloaded 7-Zip free open source software.
-clicked on RAR file and chose 7-Zip program to open RAR and load it into same folder where I downloaded RAR file
-Poof! Like magic, RAR was unzipped and ready for use.
-I opened Kontakt in my Studio One. Loaded the first Atmosphere (drag and drop) into empty Kontakt and Poof! Like magic the Project Pegasus appeared with loaded patch.
-I played and recorded about a minute into my Studio 1 and it Works!
Hope this helps others out there.
Thanks to the author. I’ll be sending you some payment via PayPal. Great job.

first off these are so awesome! having lots of fun with the .wav files.
my only problem is that i use the kontakt 5 player, which is free…i am guessing without purchasing the full version of kontakt i can only use the NKI in DEMO mode ?

Thanks Chad! You are correct, the free “Player” version of Kontakt times out after twenty minutes or so, but the .WAV files are there in the folder structure and you can use them in any sampler you want.

Great job!!! Tried som of them. Had problems to use the files from exodus and Pegasus as sampling to create Another patch in omnishere. That was a pity. It says that it can’t read the format and that i shuld convert it to .wav but it is .wav already. I gave up but i don’t understand why this is happening

Sounds like you might be trying to import the .nki files into Omnisphere. The wav files are in the same folders as the .nki files, so they have the same name, just different file format. Project Exodus was done a bit differently, with the wav files in a separate folder so there’s no confusion.

You could just copy and paste the wav files from their respective folders and paste them into a new folder under a different name. Sorry about this. I’m not sure if the .nki files will work in Kontakt if you cut and paste, so be sure to COPY and paste ;)
