Free Vinyl Noise Sounds
Vinyl Noise SFX is a collection of vinyl noise recordings. Chia captured the raw audio from his turntable, resulting in an authentic audio collection of vinyl crackle sounds, noise pops, and other vinyl sonic imperfections that we’ve all grown to love.
You can use the sounds for layering on top of author recordings to emulate the vinyl sound. They can also work as a noise source for further sound design work.
What is Vinyl Noise?
Vinyl noise is the characteristic sound you hear when playing the silent part of a vinyl record. It is also called “vinyl crackle” or “record hiss.”
This noise is typically a combination of pops, crackles, hisses, and other static-like sounds that are produced by physical imperfections in the vinyl record or dust and other debris in the record grooves.
During the golden age of vinyl records, these sounds were often seen as a nuisance or a sign of damaged or worn-out audio equipment.
However, the recent revival of vintage audio equipment and lo-fi music made vinyl noise a popular sound effect. Many people now associate the sound of vinyl noise with a warm, authentic, and vintage audio experience that digital formats don’t replicate.
How can you use Vinyl Noise in your projects?
You can use vinyl noise as a creative sound effect to add a layer of warmth and nostalgia to your tracks.
To get started, download our free Vinyl Noise sound effects and import them into your DAW. Load the vinyl noise on a separate audio track and reduce its volume.
Vinyl noise is typically quite subtle, so you’ll usually want to keep the level fairly low. The goal is to make it just noticeable enough that it adds texture and warmth without distracting from the main elements of the mix.
The Artist
Chia is a DJ and producer from Oregon who decided to digitize his vinyl collection and came up with this cool set of vinyl noise samples during the process.

Cool pack, thanks Chia and Tomislav!
I had the same idea to record vinyl noises several days ago :)
Thanks for the samples! But, hey, wouldn’t it be illegal for us to use these samples commercially, since they came from people’s published works, ie from vinyl albums/LPs?
Hi LeRoi! Well, these are just samples of vinyl noise and crackle. No musical content has been captured in the samples, so definitely no worries there.
Very cool stuff and great samples of vinyl.
Good for something different: Noise/IDM tracks
Just wondering, will you be doing a Field Recording samplepack?
Hi Seventeen! Well, the first 99Sounds release Rain And Thunder falls into the field recording category and more packs like that one are in the works! Do you have any special requests for a field recording pack?
Awesome!
Yes I do have special requests for a field recording pack these are:
Fields,nighttime,traffic,train stations,
below staircases,seashores,forests,
fireworks,offices,and Tornados
Cool, those are some pretty cool requests! I was actually planning to create a library with train station field recordings, so that will be the first one on the list!
Power tools, car & truck engines, & however you make “clicks and cuts”, ‘cuz I haven’t figured that out yet. But vinyl seems like a good start…
I read “seashores” as “seahorses”…… Which I now humbly request.
:D Shouldn’t be a problem really, I’ll go grab the keys to my submarine.
Thanks
Your the best!
Nothing like the sound of scratched vinyl..Thanks.
Thank you Chia, last few days I was looking for crackle vinyl track to add in my song, but couldn’t find the exactly I want, now looks like my journey will end up here, thanks again!
Thankyou! :) :)
Thank you ! I love it !!!
DUDE!! you’re AWESOME.
Thanks men!

Big THNX!!!

This is a great product. Dude could have easily charged for this. Better than any vinyl emulation plug i’ve used. I like using the kontakt instrument that’s included.
Awesome sample library! Since I don’t have a turntable, this is extremely helpful! Appreciate the post!
Thanks for posting this! It’ll come in handy sometime in the near future, I’m sure!
And what a cool site you have – and alla this stuff is free?!? I’m subscribing! Now!!
thank you man :)
Thanks!
I finally got them!
It wouldn’t extract the on my Linux computer because it would not allow a filename using square brackets, ie, [99sounds] I finally got inside the archive and extracted the content without the [ ]’s :)
The Link isnt working anymore. :(
File doesn’t exist. :(
Broken link :(
For some reason I can’t access the link to the download.

I’m downloading this and only getting a PDF file. Tried twice now. What’s up with that?
