Bass City is a free collection of synthesized bass samples created by Chad Beckwith from PatchArena and me, Tomislav Zlatic of 99Sounds.
The free download link is located at the end of this article.
The Library
Bass City features a set of 26 classic analog and FM bass patches that are multi-sampled from three different hardware synthesizers.
You’ll notice that this sample library is quite different from the previous 99Sounds releases. Sampling hardware synthesizers is something I enjoy doing in my free time, so I’ve been planning to publish a synthesizer sample library such as this one on 99Sounds for quite a while.
Recently I got in touch with Chad from PatchArena, and we both agreed that we should join forces to create an elaborate electronic bass sample library by sampling some of our favorite hardware synthesizers.
So, Chad recorded several great-sounding bass patches from his Korg EX-800 analog synthesizer and added a touch of FM flavor to the library with the legendary Yamaha TX81Z module.
I jumped in with my trusty old Korg Poly-800 synthesizer, which is quite limited in terms of features but still capable of producing some warm bass sounds. I passed the audio signal through a small tube preamp on its way to the audio interface, adding a bit of saturation on top.
And that’s how the Bass City sample collection came about!
If you use these samples in a music track, or (even better) if you’re in the mood to create a demo track, post a SoundCloud link in the comments section below, and we will feature your tune on this page.
We’d love to hear how you used these samples in your music!
This sample library was a true labor of love, and we hope that you’ll enjoy using these samples in your tunes.
I want to thank Chad Beckwith once again for publishing his fantastic bass samples on 99Sounds and for all the brilliant work he has done so far on Patch Arena.
The Collab Artist
Chad Beckwith is an experienced sound designer and synthesizer connoisseur from Vermont.
He is extremely passionate about synthesis and sound design. He also loves coffee and collecting vintage samplers. You can check out more of his sample packs and other audio-related works on his fascinating website PatchArena.
I highly recommend his SFZ Flukelele sample collection, as well as the lovely Contact SPACE Kalimba library.
Summary
Bass City contains 399 individual 24-bit WAV samples, which form 26 multi-sampled patches in total, covering a wide range of classic analog and FM electronic bass sounds.
The library also contains SFZ patches which were compiled by Chad Beckwith and Kontakt 5 instrument patches created by Tomislav Zlatic. The custom Kontakt 5 interface features simple filter and volume envelope controls.
Users who load the SFZ patches in Plogue Sforzando will notice that Chad has also included filter controls on the instrument panel. Nice touch!

When I click download – i just get a file – not a .zip
Add .RAR at the end and then extract it with 7ZIP or WinRAR. Sorry for the trouble, it’s a bug with our file host.
is it me or do youall only support mac I mean wth
Everything on our website will work equally well on Windows and Mac OS.
For me it’s the same….just an unusable file.
The download is a .rar file. You’ll need either winrar on windows, or UnRarX for OSX to decompress the files:
WinRar

UnRarX

I need PC
Sorry for the late reply! It’s a bug which sometimes occurs with our file hosting service (Droplr). If you get a file with no extension, add .RAR at the end and extract it.
Thank you :)
You’re welcome!
if you are on OSX klick on information and ad .zip and you can extract with no problem
Thank you for this work, it’s good to see the soundmakers being good with the melodymakers!
You are awesome! Thanks a lot for putting so much time, efford and love into this. You help making the world a better place. No shit!
Thank You so very much for these great sounds!!!!!!!
When I click the black download button, it downloads as a VLC file and I cannot open it? The drum samples one worked and opened a folder with all the different samples, but this one and the hand claps one aren’t working… any hints?
Hi Jordan, the download works fine here! Can you please give it another go?
thank you guys, i found this page 10minutes ago – and i love you sounds. thx ! :D
Hy,
I have made the 99sounds Bass City library for Maschine.
you can download that here : https://docs.google.com/uc?export=download&confirm=no_antivirus&id=0B7uq9YVOcDeYdFMwSEkzTlBxUEE
I cannot load the patch in my Kontakt 5. Which version you use to generate it ?
Hey, if anyone here is using kontact 5, how do you get rid of the demo mode. i can’t find a license to get rid of it. its quite annoying
Hi Jared, it’s a limitation of Kontakt Player. You need the full version of Kontakt in order to remove the demo limitation.
Hi, I LOVE this sounds :) there’s only one problem… I can’t find synth like at 0:38 soudcloud up there…I meed it soo much :D
Hi Matta, that sound is Funky Pick in the Yamaha TX81Z folder. Enjoy! :)
Hi, thank you for reply! I checked it out but it sounds a bit different…is there a combination of two sounds for this great sound? Thank you :)
Hi Matta! Nope, it’s a single sound (Funky Pick) but with a bit of reverb applied to it. Let me know if you need any further help!
Great 99Sounds! They sound perfect! Thanks!
KOOL
Thanks for the samples. Greate.
I’d just like to say that I’m absolutely floored that you’re giving these away for free. There are some seriously dope sounds in here, and I’m stunned with how well they play as multisamples. It’s so nice to have access to this caliber of sound without the [CPU/mental stress] overhead of running VSTs. So, huge thanks! You are downright inspiring!
Thanks for the kind words and we’re very glad to hear that you like the samples. Have fun using them!
tnx so much i love it
Thanks for the sounds. You are great!

Hey guys, I keep coming back to your site from time to time to check up, always love what you all put out. It’s really great stuff.
Just have a question with this one in particular: Does anyone know if there are Ableton patches available? I see someone has been kind enough to make a Maschine-friendly version, but haven’t seen any on Live yet.
If not, I could always go in and make them myself, I suppose.
Anyway, thanks again for the great work!
great. thx
thanks for this! much appreciated!
You’re welcome!
MUCHAS GRACIASSSSSSSSSSS!
